How the Seven Years War Begot the American Revolutionary War

The Treaty of Paris was created in 1763, which limited the French presence in the Caribbean, India, and North America; this ultimately weakened the French from the loss of the war. Even though the French lost the 7 Years War, the British took a fairly extensive beating too. The British lost a lot of people to pillaging and in 1756 the British debt was 75 million pounds. The English Government thought the American colonists should have to help pay their war debt through taxes, which is one example of the leading factors that lead to the cause of the American Revolution War.

Another factor that lead to the American Revolution War was when the English Government created the Proclamation Line of 1763, which forbid settlement of the colonial governments West of the Appalachian Mountains and reserved that area for Indians. The settlers of the British colonies were outraged because they had just finished fighting a war to get to adhere to that land, so they rebelled against the British Parliament and decided to inhabit the territory even though they were not supposed to.

Overall, the breakdown of respect for authority Colonists were left from the Seven Years War did not make the colonists happy because it limited the ability for them to take land from the Indians and have to pay war debt through taxes.

The colonists were use to the British putting taxes on goods to regulating trade, but they did not find it fair to have to pay off the English Government’s war debt. It wasn’t that the colonists actually had a problem with the taxes; they just had a problem with not having a say in British Parliament since the taxes were being forced upon them.

The colonial response to these acts is known as the start of the American Revolution; Massachusetts passed a set of resolutions calling for colonists to disobey the Intolerable Acts,stop paying taxes, and prepare for war. In 1774 a group of delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies met in Philadelphia to talk about the resistance of the Intolerable Acts. The colonists sending delegates to Philadelphia can be said as the first revolutionary act of the American Revolution War.
